Reforestation as the solution for  flood disaster

Honorable judges, ladies and gentlemen.

Good morning/Good afternoon.

Thanks for the chance that given to me to deliver my speech. Today, I would like to tell you about Reforestation and flood disaster.

Ladies and Gentlemen, 

I believe most of you have known and undertsood about flood disaster. Flood is huge disaster which related to overflowing water onto land that is normally dry. None of us want such disaster coming to our environment. ”Flood Disaster”, from its name, it can give some disadvantages such as destroy the building, destroy the tree, make some diseases appear in the society and even caused a lot of victims. Some of us may recognize flood is a small disaster but it will give big effect if we don’t overcome it immediately. Can you imagine how severe this? flood is like nightmare.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We have known that there are two main factors that can make flood disaster happen:

Natural factor

Human factor

and based on these two main factors, we can give some reasons which trigger this disaster happen, such as: less of absorbtion area, less of reservoir that can intercept and retain the falling water, the water flow area stepped up by trashes that trown by people, barrent land (no trees, no plants) and heavy rain. All of them related to flood and also related to the ground. Therefore ladies and gentlemen, we have to increase the function of ground by doing reforestation.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Flood disaster usually happen when rain season is coming in our country, and when this disaster happened, we couldn’t avoid it because it happens quickly and unpredictable. That’s why some program had been done by the government to overcome this problen, but why does it still happen?

We know that everyone has obeyed the  regulation, to do that, to do this, but the first thing is we have to  see our nature, see the condition of our environment. It is useless if people just keep the environment without some actions. It is useless if we just let it go, yes, let it go to flood. That’s why in this speech I would like to give strong attention about reforestation as a solution for flood disaster. With reforestation I hope that it will increase the people conciousness to preserve the nature. Therefore ladies and gentlemen, it is time for us to do something for our own and our coming generation.
And the question is why should reforestation?

Because it will give big contribution to our environment. We know reforestation means that rebuild and restocking of existing forest and woodland that have been depleted, usually caused by deforestation. By doing reforestation, we plant trees in a big amount and it will increase the ground’s function to absorb the water. Nelson mandela said that ”the true meaning of life is plant trees, under who shade you don’t expect to sit”.
Due to everything which happens from small reason is coming from the big reason. I know it is not only reforestation as the solution for flood. There are many solutions like “don’t throw trashs everywhere”, ”don’t do ilegal loging”, build reservoir, and etc. But I believe that if there are some absorption areas by doing reforestation, the water flow can be controlled. Thus, we have to do the big one first and then the small one. The big one here is the condition of our nature while the small one are another things to do to prevent and even overcome flood disaster.

I’ll lie here and learn how, trees make a long shadow and a light sound.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I have two questions for you

Did you ever think that reforestation is a solution for flood?

Did you ever think to increase the ability of ground to absorb water?

Therefore doing reforestation is effective because we’ll accept the benefit from nature in big intencity, reforestation can increase the ground ability to absorb water, save the water in ground and flow it slowly to the downland, so that it is not overflow and the river don’t accept lot of water. Thus ladies and gentlemen, from this process we can analyze that the water flow can be controlled through reforestation.

Ladies and Gentlemen

I have said that Reforestation is effective, why ?

Because Reforestation means plant some trees and trees are our intimate contact with nature. Doing reforestation is like say “please help us, we need your assistance, we realize that you are very important for our life, we care to you”. Remember your place among all living being that need to be save and prosperity. Daniel Killey said “Man is nature as much as the trees”. It means that we have to preserve our nature because human and trees are living together in this earth.

And maybe all of you thought on how to do it? How to make this plan comes true? Something that you have to know is there are a lot of reforestation’s fund that was given by Ministry of Forest and the amount is up to 800 billion rupiahs which is distributed to all provinces in Indonesia. Can you imagine, how many places can be planted trees with 800 billion rupiahs? That is such a large number of money which represented how many trees we can plant in our country.

Ladies and Gentlemen, there are 3 steps to do reforestation

Preparation       choose the trees, prepare the land, doing cooperation with go green organization.

Action       plant’s trees

Maintenance       fertilizing, watering, keeping, etc.

So, if we have known the function of reforestation, why don’t we do it?

Therefore Ladies and Gentlement, I believe that we want to do this action, why?

Because we care. We want our mother nature back and we know it still belongs to us, we want to make the normal function of nature comeback and  of course we want to avoid this kind of disaster. God has cared with these trees, trees can save us from drought, disease, avalanches, a thousand tempest and flood and  trees is a nature’s quest of human conciousness.

Thus, I believe that we can do it, because with our passion, courage and spirit we can achieve everything easily, together to be better, to keep our environment, to preserve the nature, to save the existence of creatures and to prevent from disaster.
